Research Opportunities for UCI Undergraduates
One of the most rewarding ways to participate in conservation is through research.
One of our chapter goals is to stimulate conservation-based research in Orange County by helping partner
local conservation professionals, university students and faculty, and amateur research enthusiasts.
Opportunities are available to anyone interested in hands-on research experience and/or learning field and
lab-based skills. If you are an undergraduate student at UCI, there are also opportunities to earn course
credit for doing conservation research through the Undergraduate Research Program at UCI.
OCSCB is currently recruiting researchers for the following projects:
Raptor Research with Scott Thomas of Sea and Sage Audubon
Participate in a long-term study of the breeding ecology and migration behavior of raptors such as Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks. Contact Christina Zdenek (czdenek@uci.edu).
Large Mammal Research in Laguna Canyon with Laura Cohen of OC Harbors, Beaches and Parks
Wildlife motion detection cameras will be used to monitor and analyze the movement patterns of large mammals in Laguna Canyon. Contact Riley Pratt (prattr@uci.edu).
A more complete list of guidelines and expectations of research participants can be found HERE.
OC-SCB’s Research Committee is continuously working to join undergraduates, faculty PI’s, and conservation science groups with the aim of conducting pertinent conservation research in Orange County. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to get out in the field and practice conservation!
